While the range of different binding options at printing services often looks intimidating, in reality the choice is usually clear cut. Binding style is just as important as the design in the quality of a booklet printing job; today we are taking an in-depth look at each of the main styles of binding for booklet printing to help ensure your job turns out as planned.

Saddle Stitching

Saddle stitching involves folding the pages of your booklet printing job in half and stapling them along the fold. It is used for booklets up to a certain number of pages, which will vary slightly depending on your printing service. Booklets up to around 60 pages can be saddle stitched without the spine of the booklet bulging.

When your trade printer is saddle stitching your job, some services will require that you impose the pages, while some will do this for you. Imposing the pages involves setting the page numbers up in order so that the numbers appear consecutively when the staples are in place. It is much easier to set up your document as single pages rather than facing pages if you want to have it saddle stitched; either you or your trade printer will more easily be able to impose the pages.

Wire binding

Wire binding and wiro binding are the same process. Holes are punched along the side of your document, and your trade printer uses a special machine to insert a wire coil which acts as a ‘hinge’ for your booklet. It is suitable for quite large documents, and also when you want the reader to be able to remove pages from the booklet. Wire binding easily allows pages to be torn out, without compromising the sturdiness of each individual page.

Large documents are often suitable for wire binding, but you will need to allow space for the binding in your booklet design. The amount of space needed will depend on how many pages your document has, as this dictates the size of the wire coil. You can, of course, use non-standard size paper to accommodate the space for the binding – but this would incur extra cost.

Perfect binding

Perfect binding is the type you see in commercial books with a flat spine – those with a vertically printed title along it that allows you to see what the book is while it’s still in a bookshelf. ‘Soft cover’ or ‘paperback’ books are perfect bound. Your printing service separates the pages into sections, and the sections are glued to the inside of the spine. It allows for a seamless look, but involves more materials and more time than either saddle stitching or wire binding – and is therefore more expensive.

If a document is more than 600 pages long, most book printing services would recommend splitting it into volumes, otherwise perfect binding becomes unstable. Conversely, the book must be at least 60 pages to give room for printing on the spine.

Custom staple positioning

Sometimes a simple staple is all that is needed, but saddle stitching is ‘too’ secure. If you want people to be able to flip through your book vertically, or tear pages out easily, using a custom staple position is another binding option offered by printing services. They can place them along the top, or diagonally at a corner, for example.

When planning the best methods to get your information and/or products out to the masses, consider the use of full color, professionally printed booklets. There is so much versatility in a color booklet, as well as portability. A booklet can easily slip into a pocket or purse for future perusal, quite unlike a television commercial or a sign! As long as you use a font and font size that is easily read, people of all ages will be able to absorb and act upon the reasons you turned to color booklet printing in the first place.

Basically, color booklets represent a learning tool for your customers, and in a way, for you as well. The process of getting together text and photos in order to put them together in booklet form can teach you a surprising amount about your products and business as a whole. You can, in a sense, see your product offerings through the eyes of your current and potential customers when they are in printed booklet form. This can be helpful to your business and product line.

What makes a color booklet so different from other methods you could use to inform people about the products you sell? Why couldn’t you just have a few nice posters made, or look into brochure printing? While these options may work for others who do not have many products, or much information to put before the public, anyone with a good-sized inventory really needs the added space available in a color booklet. Another beauty of these booklets is that you can personalize them with as many or as few pages as you might need. Of course, too many pages will turn that color booklet into a catalogue, which is another subject entirely.

Think about how easy it can be to distribute color booklets as opposed to posters or even brochures. Also, consider how useful the color booklet can be in certain situations. Any time a group of people has a need to receive information, such as a training class for new recruits; booklets can be used much as textbooks are. In addition, you can somewhat recoup the price you paid for professional color booklet printing by reusing the booklets for the next group of new recruits. A little thought will show you how color booklets could really spice up your next marketing or advertising campaign.

You will want to get an idea of how many booklets it will take to suit your needs. Then, with this number in mind, check around and see which online printing company has the best prices for color booklet printing. The cost of having your booklets printed is going to be a little more expensive than having the same number of brochures printing. Do remember the mileage that you will be able to get out of a printing run of color booklets. The success that comes your way by using these booklets will far exceed the amount that you spent. If your marketing and advertising budget will allow for the printing of color booklets, do not hesitate to try this impressive method of getting the word out about your product or service.

Booklet printing is a great marketing tool! Whenever you build your business with booklet printing, you will be able to watch your profits climb as your customer base grows. Booklets can play a special role in your business dealings with potential customers, for you can inform them about your products and services via this portable form. People seem to like booklets because they are compact. You can get quite a lot of business and product information into a booklet. Once used in your marketing campaign, booklets can bring many new customers to your business!

In order for you to have success with booklet printing, you need to give the matter some thought by deciding just what group of your potential customers you want to reach. Will your target audience be of a certain age group, a certain marital status, or live in a certain area of town? Once you have decided which group of people to target with your marketing blitz, you will need to figure out what kind of information you want to share with this audience. Different groups will of course require a different kind of business message and call to action, so give this matter some serious thought before you make your decision.

Next, you must consider how the cover of your booklet is going to look to your audience. Nothing can quash a marketing campaign faster than a plain, unadorned booklet cover! If you want your booklet printing campaign to be successful, you must see the finished product through the recipient’s eye. A nice looking cover design will speak for you and your company, and will spark an interest in what is inside the booklet.

Booklet printing can promote your business in many ways. You can use a professionally printed booklet to display your products, always keeping your target audience in mind. For example, if you have decided that you are going to run a marketing campaign with booklets this spring, and you want your target audience to be young people from 18 to 25, then you will use the products in your inventory that appeal to potential customers of this age.

You have many choices when it comes to building your business with booklet printing. You want your booklets to contain information that people will relate to, and that will represent a learning experience for them. Prospective customers can flip through a booklet, which highlights the goods and services your business has to offer, and they will get a real feel for what the business is all about. This can help them to make the switch from prospective customer to current customer.

You can include materials and information in your booklets that will blend in with your products and services. For example, if you sell small kitchen appliances, a booklet of recipes that can be prepared with these appliances can motivate your customers to buy one or more of those appliances. If your product is one that can be taken apart and put together again, a booklet with illustrations that show just how this is done can be very useful in persuading people to purchase this product.

In order to offer your customers and prospective customers a quality booklet, you will need to find yourself a company that does professional book printing services. You will save both time and money when using an online printing company for your booklet printing needs.
